Traveling for Business in Washington, D.C.

The downtown area is the best location for business visitors who travel to Washington, D.C. They are convenient to government institutions and the business sector. The Mandarin Inn is an exceptional business hotel in the nation's capital. The well-situated hotel offers excellent facilities for short or extended stays and access to the Capitol, Executive Departments and Agencies, and power centers in the core business area such as K street and L street, and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Fairfax at Embassy Row is convenient to the International community along the Embassy area of Massachusetts Avenue to the National Observatory. The Four Seasons Hotel is near the White House and the core business district on K and L streets. The Hay Adams Hotel is located in Lafayette Square near the Executive Office Buildings, Jackson Plaza, and The White House. This is a historic location and in the heart of the city.

The D.C. Convention Center is the Walter E. Washington Convention Center at Mount Vernon Plaza. It is convenient to many downtown hotels and a short taxi ride from anyplace in the core business district. It is convenient to Capitol Hill, the K street Corridor, and federal government offices and private institutions.

There are many excellent restaurants in the core business areas of K street, L street, Vermont Avenue, and Connecticut Avenue. DuPont Circle has a number of high-end destinations as well as casual eateries. The Palm is a classic, and a venerable location; some more recent additions include Zatinya in the Convention Center area and the Iron Gate. The tapas at the Bodega Spanish Tapas Lounge, in Georgetown, make a terrific way to enjoy a variety of tastes.

For business professionals who travel to Washington, D.C., the best option to and from the airport is the Washington Metro station for the Blue and Yellow lines at Regan International. Ground transportation is also excellent since Reagan Airport is close to downtown, just across the 14th Street Bridge, including limousine, shuttle bus, and taxi service. Dulles Airport and Baltimore Washington Airport are further than Reagan Airport and not accessible by Metrorail. However, they have dedicated airport bus service from downtown locations. Train travel in and out of Washington is excellent with high-speed rail on the Northeast Corridor routes from D.C. to Montreal including Philadelphia, New York, Newark, and Boston.

When the hectic pace of business in Washington, D.C. subsides to permit some personal time, an excellent place to have a 'me' moment is the Marakesh restaurant located on New York Avenue. This place can transport the diner to another time and place. The authentic Moroccan decor and seven-course meal will bring the flavors and styles of northern Africa. The windowless decor, colorful tapestries and Persian rugs, accent the elegantly styled Casbah interior. Servers wear period costumes and the floorshows are elegant music and Middle Eastern dance performances. The restaurant requires reservations due to limited seating each day, and a capacity for each meal service. Many comment that the experience is like a brief vacation.
